Torncon brings together the Torn team, the player community, and the people building its features in the same room. Time and space to hear what players actually experience, exchange ideas with the Torn team, and think about what comes next is not something that fits into a scheduled call.
The team also returned with a physical reminder of the work: 3D models of in-game items that ddx helped bring to life, sitting somewhere between memorabilia and a portfolio piece, depending on who is asking.
Not everything ran smoothly. The ddx entry into the Tipsy Trivia quiz suffered an early setback when one team member, who will remain unnamed, defected to a rival team. The last-minute recruitment of the Torn writer steadied the ship. Last place was avoided, and the experience served as a useful reminder that there is always more to learn about the world the team is building in.
The team came back with new connections, direct feedback, and a clearer sense of the community at the centre of what they are working on. It was, by any measure, time well spent.
