Hands holding a white virtual reality headset and its two controllers

A physical mock-up room is built once, seen by few and demolished after sign-off. ddx VX puts the room in a headset while the design can still change.

What it does

ddx VX turns a hotel room design into a room you can walk in virtual reality (VR), in three steps.

  1. Upload. A designer uploads the SketchUp, Revit or Twinmotion file from anywhere in the world. Each client’s files are stored apart from everyone else’s.
  2. Render. We load it into AWS (Amazon Web Services), where Unreal Engine 5 renders the room on NVIDIA graphics processors, started when they’re needed. You pay only for the minutes you walk.
  3. Walk it. The room streams to a Meta Quest 3 headset with no cable to a computer. Anyone with one opens a link and steps inside. There’s no app to install and no headsets to ship.

What it changes

  • Compare in place. Swap finishes, lighting and FF&E (furniture, fixtures and equipment) without rebuilding anything, with three options side by side in the same room.
  • Review from anywhere. The design team, the brand standards team and the general managers on property walk the same room, wherever they are.
  • Hold the brand standard. Check each property against the brand before construction starts, and catch off-spec details in the headset, not in the defects list at handover.
