One Bangkok is Thailand’s first fully integrated smart urban district. It covers 1.8 million square metres of mixed-use space across offices, retail, hospitality, residential, and cultural zones, built to serve more than 100,000 people daily.

It holds LEED Platinum certification for neighbourhood development and, at the time of its opening in October 2024, was the largest mixed-use urban development under construction in Southeast Asia. Across the site, more than 250,000 IoT sensors are embedded into the built environment.

The ambition extended beyond construction. One Bangkok’s developers sought to integrate smart services across energy, water, telecommunications, predictive maintenance, video analytics, security, traffic, and parking — creating an operational ecosystem as complex as the physical infrastructure it runs alongside.

TCC Technology — the smart services subsidiary of TCC Group, the project’s developer — engaged ddx to design and deliver the integration framework that would make this possible.

The objective was to design and implement a smart city integration platform capable of unifying more than 30 operational technology and IoT systems into a single, secure, vendor-neutral framework — one capable of supporting real-time data processing, advanced analytics, and future system expansion across one of Southeast Asia’s most complex built environments.

The platform needed to serve One Bangkok’s command centre as a single operational nerve centre — providing unified visibility across energy, water, security, mobility, and building management, while remaining adaptable as the district’s smart services continued to evolve post-launch.

Underpinning this was a set of non-negotiable requirements: compliance with local Thai data privacy regulations and international standards, robust cybersecurity architecture, and a governance model capable of managing delivery across a large, multinational vendor ecosystem. The solution also needed to be fully transferable — designed so that One Bangkok’s internal team could operate it independently from day one.

ddx worked in close partnership with TCC Technology to define and deliver the smart city integration framework.

Building on earlier involvement alongside Hitachi Asia, ddx assumed full responsibility for smart services delivery and systems integration in 2023, providing technical leadership and programme governance through to opening.

Starting from an existing high-level architecture, ddx expanded the solution definition to establish clear integration standards, data models, and governance structures across the estate. A central, vendor-neutral integration platform was designed and implemented to connect more than 30 operational technology and IoT systems — including energy, water, security, mobility, and building management — through secure, API-based interfaces.

ddx led the technical evaluation and procurement of specialist vendors on behalf of TCC Technology, managing awarded work packages through the smart city PMO and coordinating delivery across a complex, multinational stakeholder environment. Throughout, ddx embedded cybersecurity controls, data privacy safeguards, and compliance mechanisms aligned with both local and international regulations.

The approach prioritised scalability, interoperability, and operational readiness — ensuring the platform could be confidently handed over to One Bangkok’s internal command centre team while remaining adaptable to future system expansion.

At opening in October 2024, the integration platform was live and operational — connecting more than 30 OT and IoT systems across the district and providing One Bangkok’s command centre with unified, real-time visibility across energy, water, security, mobility, and building management.

The platform’s vendor-neutral architecture meant no single supplier held a position of dependency, and the system was designed from the outset to accommodate future services and expansion. Cybersecurity controls and data privacy compliance were embedded throughout, meeting both local Thai regulatory requirements and international standards.

The project’s smart city credentials were independently recognised: One Bangkok received WiredScore and SmartScore Platinum certifications at launch — reflecting the quality of both the digital infrastructure and its integration.

One Bangkok required integration at a scale with few regional precedents. No established framework existed for smart city delivery at this magnitude in Southeast Asia, which meant ddx was simultaneously defining architectural principles and managing live delivery — with limited access to specialists who had worked at comparable scale.

Managing a large and diverse vendor ecosystem introduced further complexity. Different technologies, protocols, and multilingual stakeholder groups required structured governance and disciplined communication to keep the programme coherent.

ddx addressed this through prioritised integration sequencing — identifying the most critical and interdependent systems first before expanding across the wider estate. Each integration required detailed protocol analysis and rigorous validation to ensure compatibility with the central platform, while maintaining compliance with data privacy and cybersecurity requirements throughout.
