Case study: 6ty Degrees

Thailand’s First Salesforce Commerce Cloud Implementation

Delivery Innovation Strategy Technology
In summary

Goal

Establish a scalable digital sales and subscription platform for 6ty Degrees to support recurring revenue, one-off purchases, and long-term customer engagement.

Areas covered

Digital strategy, discovery and commercial model validation, subscription design, platform architecture, systems integration, and customer journey optimisation.

Outcomes

Delivered a fully operational Salesforce Commerce Cloud solution within two months, integrating Order Management, CRM, Service Cloud, and Stripe to enable secure, scalable digital sales and improved operational visibility.

Insight Gained

Platform selection is more consequential than it appears at the start of a project. The right architecture makes a compressed delivery possible; the wrong one makes it impossible — at a cost that no amount of effort can recover.

In depth
6ty Degrees is a premium bottled mineral water brand launched in Thailand in 2023 by Rare Beverages.

Its market position is specific: Thailand’s only bottled water produced from natural thermal mineral spring water, sourced from the UNESCO Chiang Dao Biosphere Reserve.

The brand’s ambition was to compete directly with established European premium water brands and leading domestic subscription suppliers. To do that, 6ty invested significantly in production infrastructure — a dedicated thermal spring facility and a state-of-the-art bottling plant. What it lacked was the digital sales infrastructure to bring that product to market at scale.

A premium product with sophisticated production capabilities but no platform capable of supporting subscriptions, one-off purchases, and customer data management was a commercial gap that needed closing before the brand could realise its potential.

The objective was to design and implement a secure, scalable subscription platform that supported 6ty Degrees’ go-to-market strategy — enabling recurring revenue, one-off transactions, and a reliable digital foundation for customer data, order management, and service operations.

For a brand built on a premium proposition, the digital experience could not be an afterthought. A water sourced from a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and positioned against Europe’s finest deserved a purchase experience that reflected that positioning — not a generic eCommerce checkout that undermined it at the final moment.

The platform needed to launch quickly without compromising on quality or security, accommodate the realities of the Thai market — including local payment methods — and be architected in a way that could absorb future integrations and increased demand without requiring a fundamental rebuild each time.

Getting the platform selection right at the outset was therefore not simply a technical decision. It was the commercial decision on which everything else depended.

ddx began with a discovery and scoping phase to understand 6ty’s business goals, operational constraints, and market context.

Through collaborative workshops, ddx worked with the client to refine the subscription and commercial models, validate assumptions, and define a delivery scope aligned with the launch timeline.

After assessing multiple eCommerce platforms, ddx recommended Salesforce Commerce Cloud as the solution best placed to meet 6ty’s functional, security, and scalability requirements within the Thai market. The platform was architected using Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Order Management, CRM, and Service Cloud, with Stripe as the payment gateway.

Working closely with Salesforce’s architecture team, ddx adapted standard Commerce Cloud templates to align with 6ty’s brand identity and optimised the customer journey for ease of use and conversion. Local market requirements — including QR code payments — were built in from the start, with further integrations planned to deepen customer engagement as the platform matures.

The platform launched within two months as Thailand’s first locally delivered Salesforce Commerce Cloud implementation — enabling 6ty Degrees to offer subscription and one-off purchases through a single, integrated digital channel from day one.

The solution gave the business visibility of orders, customer data, and service operations that had not existed before launch. The architecture was designed from the outset to accommodate increased demand and future enhancements without requiring a rebuild, ensuring the investment made at launch continues to serve the business as it grows.

The engagement concluded with a structured handover to 6ty’s internal team — supported by comprehensive training and documentation to ensure they could manage, operate, and build on the platform confidently without ongoing reliance on ddx. The goal from the outset had been to leave the client in control of their own platform, and the handover delivered that.

The primary challenge was delivering a complex, enterprise-level platform within a tight timeframe, while accommodating requirements that continued to evolve — including the late addition of one-off purchase functionality alongside the core subscription model.

Close collaboration across stakeholders and a disciplined relationship with Salesforce’s architecture team were critical to maintaining momentum without accumulating technical debt.

The broader lesson reflects the Insight Gained. At the outset of the project, platform selection felt like one decision among many. In retrospect, it was the decision — the one that determined whether a two-month launch was achievable at all. Choosing an architecture with the flexibility to absorb evolving requirements and the scalability to support long-term growth meant the compressed timeline remained possible. A less considered choice at that stage would have cost far more than any time it appeared to save.
